Outstanding Service – this is the highest volunteer award given by the Washington State PTA. It is awarded to someone who has gone beyond his or her own school community, job, or PTA in order to give dedicated volunteer service to children.

Outstanding Educator – Presented to an individual who has exhibited continued and dedicated contributions and efforts to enhance the educational outcomes of all children. An educator may be defined as a teacher, assistant, specialist, support staff, administrator or community member.

Do you know an educator, volunteer or advocate that has gone above and beyond this year? Who doesn’t?! There are so many to choose from!

A committee will select winners from the nominations received. Those chosen will receive a certificate, a pin and a donation is made to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Fund in their honor.

Tina Neil – LC Math 6/English 8, Co-Teacher ELA 7/8, Cross Country & Track Coach

“Tina has been an exceptional resource for both of our girls (6th and 7th grade). She continually goes above and beyond to challenge and inspire them. All the while she is a supportive voice for them through the challenges of middle school. Both of our girls are excelling at middle school in large part to Ms. Neil! We could not be happier with CPMS, and that is in LARGE part to Ms. Neil’s work each and every day.”

We are pleased to announce the winner of this years Outstanding Educator award……

Malisa Spencer – ELA 8 & CCM Elective

“Malisa Spencer, CPMS teacher, is an outstanding educator in that she goes above and beyond to passionately support, develop and improve the lives of her students.

CPMS recently added the elective, “Culture, Community and Me,” which was an idea brought forth by Mrs. Spencer. It was, in her words, her “labor of love” created with the help and support of the CPMS administration. My 6th grader had this class with Mrs. Spencer for his first elective wheel class. We were so impressed with this course. It helps students to understand and appreciate their own culture, their classmates’ cultures, and how they can better understand and serve our community and world needs. An essential course for our future leaders!

Mrs. Spencer also went above and beyond in her ELA teacher role when she curated and created additional Holocaust materials to better support the 8th-grade ELA curriculum. As Mrs. Spencer told our PTSA membership, these additional materials, lessons gathered from the Holocaust Center, provide a more robust picture and more thorough understanding for the 8th graders. Mrs. Spencer reached out to the PTSA in financially supporting the printing of these materials for the 8th-grade ELA classes. She felt her curriculum needed these enhancements for her students to have a wider breadth of understanding of the Holocaust.

On more than one occasion, I’ve witnessed Mrs. Spencer get emotional as she discussed passionately her purpose in teaching Culture, Community and Me, as well as reaching the depths of our students’ hearts and minds as they study the Holocaust. I feel Mrs. Spencer is most deserving of the award of Outstanding Educator as she pours her soul into her role as a teacher. She does more than what’s asked of her because it means so much to her to do so. As a parent, I am thankful my boys both had the opportunity to have Mrs. Spencer as their teacher. Not only does she care so much for her students, but they appreciate her, as well.”
